Stoke-on-Trent Film Theatre
Established in 1974, the Film Theatre ensures that a wider variety of films are shown in Stoke-on-Trent. Our programme contains a wide range of independent, foreign (often subtitled) and more mainstream releases. The emphasis is on films which have either not been shown or have received a very limited release at the local multiplex cinemas.
For more information on the history of cinema-going in North Staffordshire, read Lez Cooke's essay on the subject: here.
Contrary to popular belief, the Film Theatre is open to the general public. Situated on Staffordshire University's College Road campus, the Film Theatre is independent of the university and operated entirely by volunteers.
Films from the main programme are shown at 7.45pm on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. There are typically two films shown each week. In addition, a variety of local interest and amateur productions are regularly shown on Wednesday evenings with either free or reduced price admission.
The Film Theatre operates from a purpose-built 212-seat auditorium, with facility for wheelchair access.
The auditorium is equipped with modern projection equipment including Dolby Digital, Datasat Digital (previously known as DTS) and Dolby SR sound.
The bar is open from 7:00pm for the sale of beers, wines and spirits, coffee and soft drinks, and a selection of confectionary.
Please note that as no adverts or trailers are shown. All films start promptly at 7.45pm unless otherwise stated.
The Film Theatre is equipped with special facilities to make films available to everyone. These include:
An audio loop system.
The sound from ALL screened films may be heard by switching an appropriately fitted hearing aid to the 'T' position. Alternatively, infra-red headphones are available which, for patrons with hearing difficulties, may improve the audibility of the soundtrack.
Selected films are made available with Audio Description. Returnable infra-red headsets are available for use with these films.
If you require further information on either of these systems, please contact: email@example.com
